The Need to Sacrifice

Get in the Scrap!

Americans were often called to salvage and recycle items made out of important materials used for the war effort. The War Production Board, created in 1942, was in charge of official collecting sites and scrap drives for waste products. Scrap metal, old newspapers, waste fats, nylon, rubber and tin cans were all important items salvaged for the war effort. Most of the scrap was sent to factories to be made into various items for the war.
