The Need to Sacrifice

Many poster campaigns relied on a patriotic belief in the common cause. Posters encouraged people to change their habits in order to support the war efforts.  By sacrificing some of their daily food or weekly wages to send to the military and those in need, the American public showed patriotism and support of the war. Slogans such as “Use It Up!” or “Wear It Out or Do Without!” were commonly used on posters to remind individuals to do the best with what they had to make what they had last.
